Adventure Puketi

Adventure Puketi offer fully guided walks in Puketi Forest, the ancient kauri rainforest (15,000 hectares) close to the Bay Islands. With over 360 indigenous species of plants, this subtropical rainforest is one of the most diverse in New Zealand.

Puketi Night Walk
A relaxed fully guided night walk in the Puketi Forest. This intimate guided tour takes you into the forest at twilight where you experience the transition from day to night. Listen to the bird song as the tuis, the fantails and the kukupa settle for the night, while the nocturnal moreporks and kiwi awaken.

Puketi Eco Walk – half day
Intimate guided walk through Puketi Forest. Learn to recognise and name some of the native trees: the mighty kauri, tawa, remu, totara and nikau (New Zealand’s native palm tree) to mention just a few. Listen and maybe see the native birds. Spot the Northland green gecko and tusked weta.

Puketi Eco Walk – full day
Intimate guided hike that ventures into the heart of the Puketi Forest. Meet Te Tangi O Te Tui, the fourth largest kauri tree in New Zealand. On your walk your guide will take you to the remnants of one of the grandest kauri ever felled in the forest and you visit a sanctuary for giant kauri that has been protected since 1951.
